Bridgerton has finished filming its fifth season. Netflix’s update dated 26 October 2026 confirms that production outside London has wrapped, with Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza leading the story as Francesca and Michaela Stirling.

The season is due in 2027. A production wrap is a milestone, not a precise premiere date, and the announcement does not justify inventing a release month.

A different couple at the centre

The forthcoming episodes give the series its first same-gender central romance. Netflix says the story resumes two years after the death of Francesca’s husband, John Stirling, a loss shared by his cousin Michaela.

That premise places grief and the possibility of new affection beside each other. The interesting dramatic question is not whether one relationship simply replaces another, but how a character learns to imagine a future without erasing her past.

What the showrunner has promised

In a separate Tudum interview, showrunner Jess Brownell describes a season built around longing and a second chance at romance. Francesca considers returning to the marriage market for practical reasons; Michaela’s arrival complicates that plan.

Whether the season earns its emotional turns will depend on the performances, writing and time it gives the relationship.

Why the familiar format matters

A central romance brings more than screen time. It gives a couple the narrative privileges that the series has repeatedly offered its leads: anticipation, obstacles, private moments and the possibility that their feelings will determine the direction of an entire season.

That is a useful way to think about representation without reducing characters to a milestone. The measure is also how fully the story allows them to be complicated, funny, mistaken and loved.

What viewers can expect next

For now, the confirmed news is the completed shoot and the 2027 release window. A finished filming schedule does not mean viewers have seen the finished series, and promotional photographs cannot establish its quality.

As the next material arrives, watch for what it reveals about the relationship rather than treating every costume or glance as a plot confirmation.

What would you most like this season to explore: new love, family expectations or life after grief?
